I'm an incoming freshman at JHU. I got a 5 on my AP Statistics Test junior year and I want to take classes in Applied Mathematics and Statistics freshman year. With my AP score, what kind of courses would be appropriate for me? Would I be placed out of Statistical Analysis or any other courses?

You'll place out of Stat Analysis I. Have you taken Calculus?

Then you'll place out of Calc I and II. You could take Calc III, Lin Alg, and Differential Equations. However, the stat analysis 1 is not the equivalent of introduction to Statistics, so you'd have to retake Intro to Statistics (since that is a 300 level and you're placing out of the 100 level).

Hi Ling,

I, too, got AP credit for Stat and Calc.  I took Calc III first semester, which definitely was a good idea.  Its a challenging course and having covered grades ended up taking a lot of stress out (although I did end up doing well anyway).  I know a lot of people who took Lin Alg and had similar experiences.  With your stat background, as Kate said, you can move up to the next level of statistics.  Also, if you are interested in Applied Math, you can give Discrete Math a try, as I'm pretty sure thats one of the requirements for the Applied Math major (basically the only people that take the class are Applied Math or Computer Science majors).
