Over the past three years here I've had some really great professors, and these have been a few of my favorites...

Professor Galambos, who I had for Global Public Health. He's so interesting and intelligent, and he's a really compelling speaker as well. Added bonus: he themed his ties for the lecture. What's not to love?

Professor Bishai, who I had for Health Economics. I may be slightly biased in his favor by the fact that he taught a class that's exactly at the intersection of my studies at Hopkins (Public Health and Econ) but he did bring a really interesting perspective to class. He's a practicing physician at Hopkins, and a great speaker as well.

Professor Hickman, who taught American Bibles. Professor Hickman is a really interesting person as well as a great teacher. He makes you want to work hard in his classes, and took the time to meet with each of us outside of the classroom. Despite forcing us to slough through MobyDick, I don't know a single person who didn't love his class (or him).

Professor Barbara Morgan. I had Professor Morgan for Economics of Discrimination, and she's my minor advisor as well. Her research is on Women in Finance, she helped sponsor my internship, and along with being a really interesting professor she's a really approachable and helpful advisor.

I wanted to know if there is a website I could use to search for professor reviews/ratings. I've looked at ratemyprofessor.com and it isn't that helpful. If you can answer this question that would be great!

Thank you,
Maria

Something nice about Merlin (the website Kate posted) is that everyone in the class (well, everyone attending on the last day) fills out the course evaluation, so you don't have the skewed perspective you have on ratemyprofessors.com and other websites like that (where the people who post are at the extremes - they love or hate the professor). It also has things like how much work a class has in comparison to other hopkins classes, how easy it is to understand the professor, etc.

JHU recently just changed its course evaluation procedures (which is really exciting) and it has made the process a lot smoother. Students do all of the evaluation online which is really nice; I think it's a lot more convenient and of course environmentally friendly. The catch is that we have to fill them out in order to see our grades for the semester. This gives us an incentive to fill out the evaluation sheets and thus guaranteeing almost 100% participation. Furthermore, it is completely anonymous and professors review the evaluations after they release students' grades, so the whole process is fair to everyone.

Another cool thing in case you didn't know about it: Adam Riess, a professor in the astronomy/physics department, recently won a Nobel prize for his research work on Dark Energy. Check it out!

Lou Galambos. Amazing. Take a class with this dude.

Floyd Hayes. He will blow your mind with his opinions and really make you think about how you define the world in your eyes. Plus he's crazy!

For those of you prospective Public Health majors, four years down the line, take class with Homayoon Farzadegan...please.
