OBAMA AND PHILOSOPHY. Yes, there is a class on our president already. We talk about his existential wandering (allegedly), his deep pragmatism, and we analyze his speeches and writings to understand his politics.

Be jealous :) haha jk !

!سَلام

That's farsi for "Hello!"
This semester I wanted to take advantage of the lack of core curriculum and lax requirements and do something completely different -- when JHU_Jacqueline brought beginner persian to my attention, I was instantly hooked! I've already learned so much, like the alphabet, some common verbs, conjugation, how to introduce myself, and some important vocabulary words. (in only 4 weeks!) This کِلاس (Class) is so unique and  wonderful, I'm glad I got the opportunity to take it here at جاهنز هُپکینز (Johns Hopkins)

I would definitely say that Geography & Ecology of Plants is my most unique class this semester.  I spent last Tuesday morning making vegetation plots behind Hodson Hall, learning how to correctly map where certain plant species exist on our campus, and taking core samples of Tulip Poplar trees.  I feel like Dr. Brush is probably one of the only people on Earth who can actually make vegetation plots interesting - plants weren't really something I had much interest in at all before I took this class.

I'm taking a class called Comparative Sociology of Religious Fundamentalism this semester, which usually makes people go, "Wait we offer that?" when I tell them about it.  We explore and compare different fundamentalist organizations throughout the world, basically everything from the Taliban to fundamentalist Mormonism, and the underlying sociology of the movements.  The coolest thing about the class is that we get to pick a topic for a research paper that analyzes a particular fundamentalist movement or a specific aspect of a fundamentalist movement.  My topic is a comparison of warfare tactics of Islamic militants in Darfur and warfare tactics of Islamic militants in Afghanistan.

I have a class called Health in Contemporary Chinese Society and it's really awesome. We look at how health has change din China from the days of Mao to now and why. when China made the change in the late 70s to a more market based economy, its healthcare system and subsequently the health of its people went downhill. Super cool.
