The 2008-09 application is not currently available. Johns Hopkins University does not release application materials until August. The web site to check for all application materials will be:

http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/application.html

In August, we will update this site with all materials for the 2008-09 application cycle. (Currently, the materials linked on that site are for the 2007-08 cycle.)

Do note that for the 2008-09 application cycle, Johns Hopkins will be going to a paperless application system. We will be offering three online applications:

(1) Our own: http://jhu.applicationsonline.com/

(2) Online Common Application: https://app.commonapp.org/

(3) Online Universal College Application: http://www.universalcollegeapp.com/

The supplements to the Common and Universal applications will also be available in August.

We are still working on the application materials for the 2008-09 application cycle. Check back in mid-August and we should have all the online application materials for the 2008-09 application period. This web site will have all the updates:

http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/application.html

(Note that the application forms currently on that page are still for the 2007-08 application cycle.)

Hi!

I will be applying to JHU under the Early Decision plan, and I am using the online Common Application.  I have noticed that the Supplement is not yet available. I have also seen that the paper form of the Supplement for the Common App is on the Hopkins website. Should I wait for the online supplement, or fill out the paper one in addition to my online Common App?

Thank you!

Our office is still working with both the Common Application and Universal College Application companies to get our online supplements up and running. Unfortunately there have been a lot of tweaks that needed to be made and that caused a bit of delay. Within the next two weeks those supplemental forms will be up and running and you will be able to submit them online.

We strongly recommend holding off submitting your Common Application and/or Universal College Application until our supplements are online.

The PDF versions of those forms are only for applicants who are submitting a paper application. PLEASE DO NOT COMBINE PAPER APPLICATION MATERIALS WITH ONLINE APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS.

First, we strongly encourage applicants to actually apply online this year. We offer three ways to apply online:

(1) The JHU Online Application
(2) The Online Common Application
(3) The Online Universal College Application

Applying online is what we prefer as it makes application processing much easier.

If you are determined to apply with a paper application, do know that our office is not producing paper application materials that we send out. The only paper applications are actually the PDF forms on our application web site. The PDF for the 2008-09 application cycle can be found here:
http://apply.jhu.edu/pdf/2009/application_complete.pdf

For those applying via a mailed paper application, we strongly request that you send the complete application together. There is no reason to submit Part I without Part II.

Hi!
I have two questions:
Throughout the summer (specifically early August) I heard that JHU had changed from Early Decision to Early Action. I even read this notification in the website of Admissions although the notification did not say that Early Action was available (only that ED was not available). Furthermore, my counselor told me that JHU did change to Early Action.
Is this a rumor?

I am trying to apply through the online Common Application. The download file available in the website seems to contain the application materials for Fall 2009 Freshmen applicants. However, the Common Application still does not have a link to the new supplement. What should I do?

Thank you! :)

Yes this is absolutely a rumor. I am not sure where you heard this, and actually I am curious as to who may have expressed a plan for Johns Hopkins to switch from Early Action to Early Decision. I can 100% assure you that we are still a binding Early Decision school, we do not have an Early Action option, and ultimately there has been zero discussion of making any change. Early Decision is absolutely still an option, and you can learn about our ED plan here:

If we submit a paper application, will it be held against us?  My school still sends its SSRs and teacher recs via mail so I would send a paper application too I assume.

Oh, and would it be preferable to print the application double sided or single sided?  ...Just to make things easier.

Thanks.    :D

Hey Victoria!

Nothing would be held against you if you submitted a paper application. It's just that a lot of schools have the option of online apps to save paper, and to make things easier to keep track of. Because with an online application, you can add things, save, come back, change things, etc...Also, if you missed something on the online apps, it won't let you submit until you do.

And about the recommendations and transcripts... I applied using the Online Application, but the recommendations were sent separately via snail mail to the admission offices. When your materials start coming in, you are given a file in which your materials are stored...just do not do something like submit an online application, then send your supplements in the mail. :)

Now, I am not sure about the sides...

Victoria,

No it will not be held against you if you apply with a paper application, however applying online is easier, more environmentally conscious, and easier for our office to process. Ultimately the decision though to apply online or via paper is for each applicant to make on their own.

Do note that Hopkins does not mail paper applications anymore. For a paper application you would have to download the PDF of our application off our web site.

Also note, that the school portion of your application can be sent via postal mail and you can still apply online. In fact, that is what most students do -- very few schools at this time have the technology to submit application materials online.

Finally, no preference as to single or double-sided, though double-sided does save some paper at least.

Johns Hopkins recommends that students have all of their standardized exam scores be submitted directly to the University by the testing agency. Our school codes are:

SAT: 5332
ACT: 1704
TOEFL: 5332

We will also accept test scores submitted by one's high school if those scores are submitted on an official high school transcript. Check with your guidance counselor and make sure that the way they submit your scores on the transcript has been accepted by colleges in the past.
