Application Confirmations
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:37 PM »
Quote: Applicants will be mailed an acknowledgment postcard after your application is received and processed. This postcard confirms your application status, but it does not reveal if your application is complete. Rest assured that files are checked carefully for completeness. Starting next week (December 1) we will contact students whose ED applications remain incomplete. Those students will be given an opportunity to provide us with any missing items before we complete the evaluation of their application.

Should I be worried if I have not received a postcard yet? I received a confirmation through e-mail after I submitted my application online but I haven't gotten anything else since.

I just received mine today. I suppose the farther away from MD you are, the longer it takes to get there... I dread the wait for decision notifications.

As stated on these forums numerous times before, it takes time for applications to be processed and for application confirmations to be sent. Johns Hopkins University does not have an online system for tracking application status. The only confirmation we send is an acknowledgment postcard after your application is received and processed. As well, we will always contact students when their applications are incomplete.

As of December 6, 2008
If you are an Early Decision applicant, and you have yet to receive your blue application confirmation postcard then you should call the Admissions Office at (410) 516-8171 to check if their application materials have been received.

If you are a Regular Decision applicant, then you need to have patience as we have processed very few RD applications -- our priority is to process Early Decision applications. That means your application may have arrived in our office but will not be processed for some time.

A lot more information about application processing can be found on this discussion thread:

If we had an incomplete application, received the email notification stating so, and sent in the missing materials, will we still receive a postcard completion confirmation after that?

You are mistaken by what the postcard notes -- it does not note if a student's application is complete but rather that one's application was received and processed. Receiving the postcard only notes that you have an in progress application with Johns Hopkins University, not whether all supporting materials have been received and processed.

If you were contacted about an incomplete application, followed through by supplying the necessary materials, then you can safely assume that your application is now complete. We do not re-confirm with applicants, due to the high volume of application materials our office must process.
