I just got the results back for my SATII Subject exams and I am worried about my scores. I took Math II, Chem, and Korean FYI. I was simply wondering what the score range should be for me to confidently submit the scores?
There are no specific score requirements for SAT II subject exams. We strongly encourage students to submit scores on three SAT II subject exams with their applications, though this is not a requirement. The Admissions Committee does not comment on what scores on exams will be considered competitive, but rather strongly suggest that students submit scores on all subject exams one has taken.

Hi,
I have a question regarding the "up to three SAT II subject tests" recommendation.
Would it be more impressive to submit two subject tests with higher scores, or three subject tests anyways?
I signed up for two tests, and I have already taken the math SAT II, and got an acceptable, but non-remarkable score. Would I be better off taking two new tests to meet the recommended three, or taking a science and retaking the math II because I believe I can score higher if I retry?
Thanks

As we state on our standardized test requirements page (http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/testreqs.html), the Admissions Committee strongly encourages applicants to submit three subject exam scores. Therefore in answer to your question we prefer to see scores on three exams. You may choose to submit two exam scores but know that the Admissions Committee prefers to see three exam scores.

Hi guys! I am a senior in high school right now, and I sent in my application for Hopkins around a week ago. I just took the SAT Subject Exams this December, and I had already arranged to have my scores sent to you guys before I took the test, just to be sure they got there before the January 1st deadline. My question is, would it actually hurt me if I got completely destroyed by one or more of the tests? I mean I think I did okay, but I would like to know if there was actually a chance of me doing more bad than good. Thanks!

There is no way we can answer this question. Test scores matter, just like every other part of a student's application. Good scores matter as do bad scores matter. All test scores are to be reviewed in the context of the complete review of one's application, so there is never set scores one must obtain to have them be a positive versus a negative. It is out of your control, so don't worry about it.

Hi, I just finished sending my application to Johns Hopkins and I just wanted to know if admissions will accept my ACT test scores (in lieu of a second SAT II) sent officially by my school, but not through the site?

First, ACT test scores and SAT II subject exams are completely different and one exam is not looked at in lieu of another exam. We require students to submit scores for either the SAT or ACT with writing. SAT II subject exams are not required but highly recommended. You should review our standardized exam policy website for further explanation: http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/testreqs.html

Second, we require that prospective applicants send their standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, or TOEFL) to Johns Hopkins University directly from the testing agencies. Our school codes are:

SAT: 5332
ACT: 1704
TOEFL: 5332

Test scores need to be requested from the testing agencies prior to our stated application deadlines but may arrive after the deadline. Though the scores may arrive past the deadline they will still be considered if requested in advance of the deadline. There is no need to rush score reports as they do not arrive any earlier.

Dear Admissions:

Happy New Year! I have to commend JHU and admissions on such an informative blog. Absolutely love it, very helpful.

The question I have is the JHU recommends NOT requires 3 SAT IIs but I only sent scores for two SAT II, although I did take another SAT II in 9th grade.  Is it too late to send that score..I have applied for regular decision.

As we have stated previously, test scores need to be requested from the testing agencies prior to our stated application deadlines but may arrive after the deadline. Regular Decision applicants may submit testing after the deadline, if it includes the SAT, ACT, or TOEFL being taken a multiple time, or if they are submitting the recommended but not required SAT subject exams. If the scores arrive before the evaluation then they will be considered with one's application. We do not guarantee that scores sent after our application deadline will be processed in time to be reviewed with one’s application and we do not delay the review of an application to wait for scores sent after the application deadline.

I'm currently a junior in high school, and when looking at the test requirements, i noticed that the SAT II is recommended but not required. I plan on majoring in neurology and be on the pre-med track but unfortunately in my county AP Biology is not offered to students until their senior year, so odds are i won't be able to take the SAT II for biology until the end of my senior year, which would obviously be too late. Even if i plan to major in something more related to Biology, would taking the SAT II in another subject such as English or History be a good idea or would it not prove anything since they aren't my intended fields of study.

You are correct, Johns Hopkins does not require applicants to take SAT II subject exams. We recommend that all applicants take SAT II subject exams of their choosing, but we do not provide specific requirements on which exams one should take.

There is no official advantage or disadvantage to submitting SAT II scores. It is the choice of each individual student whether they want to submit SAT II subject exam scores, how many exams they want to submit (we strongly prefer 3 exams). and which exams they submit. There is no way to predict whether submitting scores (as well as which scores one submits) will impact the review of the application positively or negatively, as they are part of the comprehensive review of an applicant's file. Therefore, we do not give advice regarding which exams a student should take. These are decisions each individual applicant must make on their own.

It says that engineering students are encouraged to take the Math 2 Subject test, and one of the science SATs, and then one other subject test.
That one other subject test that could be another science one, right? It's not referring to a non-science/non-math subject test?
Thanks!

First, do note that our SAT subject exam policy is not a requirement but recommendation. Each applicant gets to choose whether they will submit SAT subject exams, which exams they will submit, and how many they will submit. For engineering applicants we strongly suggest submitting three exams: the first being Math 2, the second being a science subject, and the third being an exam of the student's choices in any subject.

I'm currently a high school junior.

I was wondering, if I take the SAT Biology M and Math level 2 subjects test this June and receive a mediocre score but then retake it next year on December 1 and get a better score, will Johns Hopkins only consider the higher score or will the lower score be detrimental to my application?

Thank you for your time

Score choice does not exist for SAT II subject exams. If a student takes a subject exam multiple times, the Admissions committee will review all scores.
