I feel like I've been doing a ton of people watching lately, so I thought this week's "best of" could be about that.

So closet creepers, where do you like to people watch?

Oops forgot to answer. I like people watching on M and A levels in the library, and I loooove people watching in Barnes and Noble because there are students and non students there.

I know I have more, so once I think of them I'll put more. :P

The best place to people-watch is on top of the low wall at the bottom of the beach, you know, the one that says "Johns Hopkins University" on it. When you're up there, it's like you don't exist to the pedestrians, though they are no more than 10 feet away at the most. As a result, you get to bear witness to all sorts of odd things. If creeping were a varsity sport, the whole team would be made up by SAAB members. And we would win, a lot.

Mine would probably be the bar-type seating in the FFC. There is a line of tables facing the path between the entrance and the food. If I'm in a small group, we'll sit there, and it is a really convenient people watching spot.

If you climb the central staircase of Gilman Hall to the fourth floor, there is a big window with a few big orange chairs right next to it that looks down on the atrium.  It's fun to sit there and "study" aka look out the window at the people in the atrium four floors below.

There are a few big chairs on Q-level of the library that are situated in front of big glass windows, right next to the doors into the library.  Every time I sit there with my coffee and reading, I end up just staring out the windows and whatever happens to be going on on the Upper Quad.

The area with the exercise rooms in the Rec Center with the giant windows is amazing for people watching! I really like people watching on the beach as well.

Definitely the rec center. Often times I'll just spend an hour or two on the machines and just watch people :)

When you walk into the MSE library there is a white statue of a woman sitting on a bench directly in front of you.  I find that if you sit next to the statue and in the exact same position as it, people often think you're a statue as well...it's a great way to people watch while being overlooked by others. :ph43r:  <-- ninja

The tables outside Levering are perfect for people watching because you catch people in their "natural habitat" on the way to class. (wait what? I'm so not this creepy)

FFC. Hands down- and if you're really in a people watching mood the bar stools, as Sydney said, are the best place to blatantly stare at people. Not that I would know or anything...

AMAZING THREAD.

My favorite place to people watch is on the Hopkins sign on The Beach - not only do you get to watch people walking to and from class, but you also get to see the neighborhood folks' reactions to the crazy things students do on The Beach. My friend and I used to get Einstein's Bagels, large iced coffees, and sit on the sign to people watch pretty much every Tuesday and Thursday after class. Good times.

I would certainly say the library is best for a well-varied representation of the Hopkins student body.  I would especially recommend looking around 3:30 AM - that is when people get wonk. M level is the best for socialization - but if you start looking around D-level (the most quiet level), you will see the most interesting set of people.

The Gilman Atrium is a great people watching place.  So is outside the bookstore when it's nice out or M level always works.

Definitely the FFC, especially if you're an upperclassman cause you can see how ridiculous the freshmen are and wonder if you were that ridiculous as a freshman.

I'm with Keith... this thread is amazing.

The FFC is the obvious choice for people watching. At dinner time if you sit there for about two hours, I guarantee you will see almost all of the freshman class. I also like to occasionally glance around my lectures to scope out the other students, not to be insanely creepy or anything.

the Beach (when it's nice out), Cafe Q (the coffee shop located in the library), or Charles Village on the weekends (around Uni Mini) when everyone's out and about. Definitely all premier people-watching destinations!

M level is always a favorite for creeping, err I mean people watching.

The balcony of my apartment building is also surprisingly suited for this as well. I don't think people walking outside realize how much their voices carry up the side of the building!

I love creeping on Q level at the bisto tables around cafe Q.  Not only can you observe from afar, but you can overhear conversations, which is an added bonus.

YES, I'm a people-watching fiend. Love this thread.
I personally love sitting on the steps of Gilman in between classes when the upper quad is packed with students. Plus, the fall foliage on the upper quad is gorgeous at this time of year. Levering Courtyard is also a pretty sweet people-watching spot: you can survey the crowd while eating lunch or hanging out with friends. The Beach is prime people-watching in early fall and in the spring because the entire school seems to be out there taking a nap, reading, or hanging out.

The easiest and laziest place to people watch is definitely from a dorm room or apartment window. Of course it depends where, but I know it was sometimes fun to watch from Building A and I'm sure the apartment above Subway would make an ideal location.

1. Charles Commons gym. Especially early on a Saturday or Sunday morning
2. The treadmills in the big gym that face out to the driveway
3. The FFC....especially the way they had it set up my freshman year where you had to awkwardly walk to the middle of the dining hall to get desert. Hilarious. My roommates and I play a game where you try to figure out what animal a person looks like (and everyone looks like one). The FFC is definitely the best place for this.
