With Spring coming, all I can think about is being outdoors. This week's Best Of topic is the best picnic spot on campus! My favorite picnic spot is on the Beach, especially when there are a ton of people there having a good time! What about you?

I like the AMR I BBQ pit, the BMA Sculpture garden, or the President's Garden.

If you're willing to take a bit of a walk (and who wouldn't be once springtime rolls around?) head to the Sherwood Gardens, about a mile straight out Greenway (the diagonal road alongside McCoy Hall).  In the spring, the garden is in full bloom with tulips and it's also in a very lovely neighborhood.  Perfect for picnics!

Picnicking on the Beach is always a great option, but there are other great places to eat around campus. I love sitting on the patio outside of Levering Hall where they have tables set up for you to eat.

I love the President's Garden for an on-campus spot. For off-campus, but still close, there's a playground in the Wyman Park Dell that's also nice for picnics and swings!

Does the FFC count as a picnic spot? If it doesn't...I don't think I've ever picnic'd.

Sherwood Gardens, The Beach....

It may not be a picnic spot, but Nolan's (the eatery in Charles Commons) has patio seating that many sophomores take advantage of when it's nice out in the early Fall and Spring.

Fort McHenry is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon and is only a few miles from the Inner Harbor.

Here's a nice aerial picture of the fort: http://www.nps.gov/fomc//images/20060720112003.jpg

I'd say Decker Quad would be a good choice, especially if you struggle to find a spot on the beach. Decker Quad is just as nice and there's rarely anyone there. It would also be my first choice since its right outside Mason Hall where I spend most of my time.

Hmm I really like the tables out in Levering Plaza like Clint said. The freshman quad would be nice too-- right by the FFC!

I also love the gardens/sculptures near the JHU Newsletter house. It's so serene there. And of course, you can always go over to the museum - it's right next to it!

I agree, Allysa! The Baltimore Museum of Art's Sculpture Garden (I basically consider it part of campus) and find that it can be the perfect getaway.

I love the tables outside of the Mattin Center. The sun is beautiful there in the afternoon and it is a great place to have an iced coffee and chat with a friend!

I don't think I've ever picnicked there, but during orientation we had a few barbeques on the Beach in front of the library and they were really fun!  I actually met some of my closest friends from freshman year at the beach barbeques :)

My friends and I have picnics on the President's Garden whenever the weather allows for it. It's a relatively quiet part of campus, and the expansive grassy space and fountain really set the scene.
