The FRESHMAN 15- scary right? But totally avoidable if you eat healthy and work out!!
So, the Best of Topic for this week is: What is the BEST running spot?

Since I'm a freshman (although that shouldn't really be an excuse) the only place I run is at the Rec center- where do you guys suggest?

I found this website: http://www.runtheplanet.com/runningroutes/city.asp?c=1377356

I also like running on the treadmills in the rec center, that way you can either watch tv or look out the giant windows.  The indoor track is also good when the treadmills are full!

Not going to lie: the only place I run is the path from McCoy to Bloomberg when I am late for my 8:00 AM Physics section... :D

I usually just run to class, but I have taken a few jogs out to the neighborhood to the North-East side of campus.  There are some pretty nice houses and such over there, its relatively flat and you get some good scenery!

I'm not a runner. I don't even exercise. Whoops?
But if I did, I'd definitely run around Druid Hill Park! There's a road that runs around the reservoir, and you can get a pretty sweet view of Baltimore from one of the look-out points.

I'm not a runner either, but my friends and I like to go for walks in the area around my apartment all the time. Behind my apartment {which is across the street from the lax field} is the edge of the Roland Park neighborhood, so it's filled with pretty houses and tiny little streets. It's such a nice change of pace from the city streets I'm used to! I also love walking over to Hampden. My roommate and I do that a lot - we take a windy route down University Parkway and around Wyman Park to get there. There are usually kids sports going on, people walking dogs, and we even once stumbled on a huuuuge flea market/yard sale. It's definitely worth taking the scenic route...and, if you walk fast enough, you won't feel a smidge guilty when you stop for Angelo's Pizza or hot cocoa at Chocolatea afterwards :P

Afraid to say I'm also not a runner.  (Fun fact: the only time I've been to the gym at Hopkins was for the student activities fair at the beginning of my junior year!  Don't worry though, I do my Pilates religiously).  I do have super great runner friends though, and sometimes they'll run down to the harbor, even as far as Fells Point (a bit east of the inner harbor area) and then back!  I could never do it, but they enjoy the tour of Baltimore.

Hey me too! I would say that if I did run I would run around Decker Quad or Homewood Field. Running all the way around the campus (back on San Martin Drive and all) would be pretty awesome too, its interesting to see that part of the campus since most people don't end up there too often.

I, like Saznin, rarely exercise.  Whoops, again? But when I do, I definitely go to the rec center.  I love running on the treadmill and watching people walk by.  It definitely makes the time pass...

While I haven't done that much running here, my roommate is on the varsity cross country team so I asked her! She recommends the neighborhoods north of campus, so just running up North Charles St. for example. There is a tulip garden in that area that's really gorgeous apparently!

Back when I was still a teen (  :P ) I would use treadmills...and I'd def. count running to class as exercise!

I've ran on the treadmills in the rec center and I love the windows - you can definitely people watch  ;) but lately I haven't had a chance to hit the gym - I've been sick for weeks! Also, if you ever get bored of the treadmills, there's tons of other equipment to use, as well as an indoor track and a rock climbing wall!

I trained for a half marathon last year in Baltimore so I got to know the running options pretty well. Now that I'm abroad, I miss how easy it was to run around the Hopkins area--Cape Town is not so great for solo girl runners.

If you go left out of campus (North?) you head into Roland Park, which is my personal favorite running location. You run past Loyola, ending up in some gorgeous neighborhoods which are a great distraction on a long run. There are also some pretty serious hills if you're looking for a challenge.

I don't run, but seems like the mini-gym in charles commons is a good place for a quick workout.

I don't like running, but my runner friends enjoy the area north of campus (as several people have already described), as well as doing a general loop around campus.

Yesterday was also the Baltimore Marathon (which goes right by campus!).

Not a big runner.

But I see people running to class and to catch the Collegetown or JHMI Shuttles a lot.  Saw the Men's Cross Country team running over in Hampden 2 weeks ago and they were getting honked at as they trudged along in a shirtless pack shirtless through the streets.

I'm just going to stick with the majority of saab on this one and say I don't run either, but I know that walking up N. Charles St away from campus toward 39th and beyond is a beautiful place for walks and I would assume for runners as well.

CHARLES COMMONS GYM! It never gets boring to run on those treadmills since the CC gym overlooks the street-- you can people watch and exercise at the same time. Plus, they keep magazines in there!

I'm definitely wasn't running the marathon yesterday like some of my friends were. But Roland Park (the neighborhood just north of the Homewood campus) + a great workout mix will force you into running. I really wish I had figured out this when I was a freshman. Coming from suburban New Jersey, I've grown up running outside. I love running on sidewalks, saying hi to dog walkers, and just exploring. It's a great, beautiful safe neighborhood to run in when the weather is nice.

Plus it will be like running through a history lesson! Roland Park is the first planned "suburban" community in North America. The early phases of the neighborhood were designed in part by Olmsted, Jr. (the son of Olmsted who designing Central Park in NYC!)

Usually my days are filled with running to meetings, work, University events, trains, buses, cabs, and sometimes class.

When I do get the chance for my serious, planned exercise the Roland Park neighborhood is quite nice. A friend and I would always head there last year. Make sure to check out that Tulip Garden!

I've recently started enjoying running more and more, but with my tight schedule, it's hard to fit in a long run. So my basic route is going down Calvert St towards University Parkway, then taking a left and going down Charles St towards the Homewood Apartments. It's actually really beautiful, especially since the trees are starting to change colors a bit (yay fall!).

But if it's too cold I just run in the Rec Center. Only thing is I'm super far from it this year (my apartment is WAY across campus), so I usually just run on the street. Sometimes it's better for your feet anyway!

Also, Lake Montebello is about a mile away from campus, and it's beautiful. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

I'm on the Soccer team. We aren't given much choice as to the direction or route of our runs. But if I were to run other than at practice, I would run south on N. Charles St. to the Inner Harbor and back.

I don't really have time to exercise, but I used to.  I think I've gone to the gym in Homewood about four times this year...  I wish I had time to go to the rec center, which I used to go to a lot last year.  The rec center is a great place with a lone of treadmills and a running track.

Sadly the only running I've done since I got to Hopkins is sprinting to the cookie line in the FFC to nab the best ones before they all are gone.
