Best of...Spring Fair!
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:43 PM »
I thought this was appropriate since Spring Fair is this week! Perfect timing, as I'll be finished with midterms and papers by the first half of the week.

What is your favorite Spring Fair event, booth, or thing to do/buy?

I'm looking forward to some of my freshmen friends' musical acts, jewelry, and some foods I didn't try last year because I was too cheap. :P

What say y'all?

I'm on the Spring Fair Committee (Fundraising, specifically), so although I may be biased, Spring Fair is arguably one of the best events here on campus!

Spring Fair is one of largest entirely student-run fairs in the nation. I'm most looking forward to the SF concert featuring Chiddy Bang (which is FREE for all students) and all of the good (bad?) fried food!

The concerts that happen during Spring Fair are always awesome, last year they had Forever the Sickest Kids and State Radio which were both FREE, and like Becca said this year they have Chiddy Bang! Aside from that there have all this awesome fried food, but my favorite is probably fried oreos. They may sound disgusting, but they're actually reallllllllllly good.

I'm a huge fan of spring fair food - last year we ate every single meal on the freshman quad, and tried new food each time. My personal favorite is the blooming onion (basically a deep fried onion, except it looks like a flower), and I'm a big fan of deep fried oreos and funnel cake too.

I also love the Spring Fair weekend mentality - practically everyone decides to just take a break from everything, and just relax and have fun. It's a nice taste of summer (which is only a few-ish) weeks away now, and hopefully we'll have nice weather too!

Although I've never been to Spring Fair, I'm excited for all of the charitable events that happen. I know that the fraternity I'm pledging always hosts a booth where brothers will shave their head to raise money for charities, so I'm excited to see some of my friends go bald!

Last year a friend and I decided to try pad thai from all of the vendors selling it (4, to be exact).  The first one was the best, but it was a tasty experience nonetheless.  The funnel cakes and lemonade are also favorites.

And since I'm 22 and allowed to say it -- beer garden is a fun part of spring fair (once you're 21, that is, so mostly juniors/seniors).  Different student organizations have booths selling different drinks (you pay them with tickets that you purchase from more official people) and the proceeds benefit their clubs.  Last year, I got to help in one of the booths which was really fun!  And just to add in the disclaimer, there is a lot of security (checking IDs and making sure everyone is behaving) and the beer garden is closed off from the rest of spring fair.  None of the other events sell/allow alcohol.

Since I'm a freshman I haven't been to Spring Fair yet, but I'm super excited. The BlackOut party is probably the thing I'm most excited for - and not just because my boyfriend is one of the three DJs playing! I think it's really cool that our school sponsors a straight up dance party for its students. I also really like the manks (man tank tops) that they pass out to a few students before the event to get everyone excited. Definitely will be rocking mine this week if it's sunny out!

Last year there was an ice cream truck here during spring fair with really good soft serve ice cream!  There were also more exciting/ usual things like deep fried Oreos and deep fried Milky Ways, but the ice cream was definitely my favorite :)

Yes!!!!

I'm also really looking forward to the corn dogs and lemonade sold on the Freshman Quad. Every year, I have to set aside a special budget just for them!

I really have to agree with Lauren and Mandy. As a senior, I enjoyed Beer Garden for the first time this year. I realize that it's so much about the atmosphere: being able to see so many members of the '11 class (and recent alumni!) The whole atmosphere of Spring Fair is great. And I realize it's about the little things from the many dogs being walked to the penguin that the Baltimore Zoo was showing.

There was also giant inflatable hamster balls on the Beach which were SO much fun to play in.

Every year, my a cappella group gets a booth on the freshman quad and sell our home-made crepes! We probably have the best recipe ever, and they always get sold out before Spring Fair ends, even with competition with the professional crepe people that came to the fair this year.

Along with the amazing crepes that Vocal Chords makes, I LOVE getting the deep-fried Oreos. Needless to say, I love fried food (maybe because I'm a frycook?).

But otherwise, I love the Sausage, Peppers and Onions. NOM. It reminds me of home so much.
