Best of... Things to Do in Baltimore for under $10

So, with Sydney posting all about the perks you get from your discount card (http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/2014/2011/02/the-freshman-15-percent-off-2/), I'd like to know other things you can do with a little bit of money.

I love the Book Thing (this AMAZING place where you can get FREE books on whatever you want and keep them indefinitely!) and I love the BMA.

Since Kate mentioned two of my favorite places in Baltimore, I'll have to go with The Walters Art Museum which is in Mt. Vernon right near a stop on the JHMI shuttle. It is free and has some amazing collections. I am taking a class called the Art of Collecting and we were actually just learning about the Walters brothers who bequeathed their collection to begin the museum, so it has a lot of historical significance to the cultural history of Baltimore as a city.

Orioles tickets are not very expensive at all, and as a Yankees fan, you can go to a Yankees-Orioles game for about a fifth of the price that it would be in New York.

I have to add in my love of The Book Thing.  Perfect.  It's also very close to the Waverly Farmer's Market, which is another inexpensive gem.

I also have to give a shout out to The HOP's Friday Night Films.  The HOP is great about screening very recent films and they're free!

The aquarium and science center both have major discounts on Friday nights...the aquarium is $8 and I think the science center is something similar.

The Book Thing is also wonderful, many great finds there!

Go to the Inner Harbor! The cab ride is definitely under $10 and if you split it with friends it's even cheaper! The Inner Harbor has so many exciting things to offer -- the aquarium, paddle boat rides, amazing restaurants, and so much more! Definitely check it out!

Go to a local show. Bands play at smaller venues throughout the city for 5 to 10 dollars usually.  A movie at the Charles is another good option.

Yes, Miranda is correct-- the Baltimore Aquarium offers $8 tickets on Fridays after 5:00pm, which is a great deal since tickets are normally around $26. There's also great places to eat in the Inner Harbor. My friend and I went to the aquarium this past weekend for a bio assignment and then stayed in the Harbor for dinner and shopping. It's nice that there's so much to do in one little area in Baltimore!

i'm not too fond of the walter's :/ maybe i just don't have good taste lol. I do like the BMA tho, and if you're into African American History, the Reginald F Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture is 8 dollars and really cool. It's *right* near the Harbor, like across the street.

Josh and Keith both stole my ideal things to do in Baltimore under $10!
I love walking or taking the Hopkins van over to Hampden. There are plenty of inexpensive stores and cafes that cater to the quirkier Baltimore citizens. My friends and I love spending our Saturday afternoons window shopping and people-watching at one of the many coffee shops. Also, biking around the Druid Hill Reservoir is awesome! When the weather is a little warmer, you can rent a bike (sometimes for free!) to ride around the reservoir for as long as you want. It's a great ride, and it provides a beautiful view of Baltimore!

One of my favorite things to do in Baltimore is actually something very unique to the Baltimore area: duckpin bowling! It's like regular bowling except the pins and balls are much smaller, and you get three shots per frame instead of two. My favorite place to go is probably Patterson Bowl down in Fells Point: it's $2.00 for shoe rental and only $4.00 a game. It's also BYOB/BYOF (food of course), so they don't "get you" with pricey menu items. Pretty good deal...and a lot of fun!

Definitely the Inner Harbor. And you don't even have to take a cab - the Collegetown Shuttle has a stop there and it's totally free. I love the Aquarium and it's also fun to walk around in the huge Barnes and Noble store they have - it's actually in an old factory so it's really cool. Also, there has been a couple of trips for ice skating held by various Hopkins clubs or RAB, and it's really cheap - about $5 per person.

I definitely have to second ice skating... I've been a few times and it's super fun. It's $4 for admission and $2 for skate rentals, you should make sure to check it out: http://www.mtpleasanticearena.com/

I definitely agree with Lucie, not only are the cabs really cheap but if you plan everything properly you can take the CollegeTown Shuttle there and back and not have to pay anything at all! Plus there's thousands of things to do near Inner Harbor, and you could always take a cab to somewhere close (like Fell's Point) after you use the CollegeTown Shuttle!

The Zoo!
This only counts as under $10 for part of the year (Jan-Feb), but it's $14 for the rest of the year, so still close to $10.
I went there last November as for the Arthritis Walk (which was the coolest charity walk I've done, since it was just walking through the zoo), and although the zoo is smaller, it's still a lot of fun. Highlights include penguins and polar bears!

I'd agree that the Baltimore Museum of Art is one of the best things near campus, and it is completely free.

Another thing to do for under $10 is take the free bus (JHMI then Charm City Circulator) to Fell's Point and get some crabcakes there. They are relatively inexpensive if you order them alone and Fell's Point is a beautiful area.

I'd say hop on a Blue Jay shuttle and head over the Holy Frigoles in Hampden for Taco Thursday.  Tacos are only $1, so your $10 will go far, and Holy Frigoles is amazing!
