I love the collegetown shuttle because it goes to the Inner Harbor and the Towson Mall! :) What is your favorite way to get around Baltimore?

Taking the trains are my favorite way to get around.  The MARC is a really cheap way to get to DC, and the Northeast Regional Rail gets me home to Philadelphia in half the time it takes to drive!

Now I do not personally use this, but I did. I've seen a bunch of kids around campus using Razor scooters to get from class to class. Soooo jealous!

They may not be the classiest or the nicest thing to drive, but I have so many wonderful memories from getting around in the SAC vans for Pre-College and Mock Trial. Groups can sign them out through the Student Life Office, and you pay per mile (plus gas).

For public transportation, I really like the Charm City Circulator, which opened up this year. It's a free hybrid bus for the downtown area, and about half the bus stops keep track of when the next bus is coming!

I agree with Sarah! I love taking the train- I just took the train to get back to campus today! It was so easy and definitely faster than driving.

For getting around on campus, I'd say walking is the best, mostly because bikes are a little annoying to get up the stairs.

I usually take a cab.  If you are ever in one, be sure to start up a conversation with the driver--you are sure to learn some unique insights on life.

I use the buses! I will admit that it isn't quite as direct as the bus systems in most other major cities, but our bus system in Baltimore is cheap {less than $2 for a one-way ride} and really efficient. My first taste of the public transportation here was when I used one bus line to get to/from work each day when I was an intern at the National Aquarium, but I use them now to go to the Enoch Pratt Free Library, drugstores to get my photo film developed, Inner Harbor to shop/eat, Towson to shop/meet up with friends, Penn Station to catch a train.. and even Wendy's when I just want a bite to eat that is a little more "exotic" than our standard places around campus :)

Definitely the Collegetown Shuttle - I love going to Towson Mall or the Inner Harbor, so I find it to be really convenient and it's free - also, here's a link to its route: http://www.baltimorecollegetown.org/shuttle/. I take the train at Penn Station to go home (I live in New Jersey) - it's really easy.

I haven't heard much about the Charm City Circulator...what places does it stop at?

I've only taken the Collegetown Shuttle once, but I found it to be really easy to use. Usually, I just take a taxi - I swear the taxi drivers in Baltimore are the nicest taxi drivers I've ever met! It's really easy to strike up a conversation with them, as Nick said.

Catching rides with friends who have cars is always great! I'm from Texas and so keeping a car here (and driving it from Dallas to Baltimore in the first place) isn't super convenient. Usually, it's fairly easy to find someone who is headed to the grocery store, Target, the mall, etc.

A few students use Zipcars, which is a car sharing service that lets you pay as you go. I hear it's relatively simple-- a few Zipcars are parked in some of the main parking areas near campus, and you essentially rent a Zipcar for however long you'll need it, then return it to the lot you picked it up from. The light rail is definitely my favorite way to get to the harbor! The JHMI shuttle goes right to Penn Station, and for $1.60 you can hop on the light rail and take it to the Inner Harbor, straight to Camden Yards, or even all the way to BWI airport. It's fast, reliable, and cheap - it was up and running before the bus system during last year's snOMG event!

I'm not sure if this counts, but I think someone should mention how easy it is to walk to places around campus. My friends and I don't really take the transportation options that much just because you don't really have to. On weekends, we just walk to wherever we want to go, which is one of the nice things about going to school in a city with so much nearby. :)

I find that cabs are the easiest way to get around.  It's always easy to hail a taxi on North Charles Street or St. Paul street (there are usually some waiting in front of Barnes & Noble), and they're relatively cheap if you're not going far!

I love the JHMI Shuttle cause from there I can get to the med campus or Penn Station (which can get me anywhere on the Amtrak trains) or the CollegeTown Shuttle if I want to get to Inner Harbor or Towson on the weekends. The Charm City Circulator is really cool too, especially cause its also free!

I like using my car because years of using public transportation to get to school has given me a small aversion to riding the buses...they're quite good though and cheap as others have mentioned. The light rail is  great for getting to the harbor! I haven;'t used the College town in a while but I really wanna try the Charm City Circulator!

I'm also a fan of the Charm City Circulator!  The regular old bus is a great option too -- very reliable and cheap, as Lauren mentioned.

I also LOVE Bolt Bus -- I just booked round-trip tickets to NYC for $18!  Perfect for visiting friends or just going up for the day.

Now that I have my car here it probably has become my favorite way to get around. But my other favorite is probably the JHMI shuttle. Stopping at Penn Station, Peabody in Mt. Vernon, and downtown at the School of Public Health, and the hospital - it is super-convenient. And free. And you can use it as a way to connect to the Charm City Circulator or go to places in then neighborhoods near the other Hopkins campuses.

I must second Mandy. I just got home for winter break using Boltbus!

The Circulator is also a huge improvement and free! I'm excited for the green route to open from the E. Baltimore campus! http://www.charmcitycirculator.com/content/route-maps

This is very non-eco friendly, but since I am now a sophomore, I am able to bring my car to school.  I don't even pay for a parking space - just find on the street parking.  While my parallel parking skills were certainly tested (and mocked) in my first few weeks with a car here, it seems to have worked out just dandy!!

I definitely love having my car here, and that's the best way of getting around in my opinion. Otherwise, it's nice to take the JHMI to Mt Vernon, or sometimes cab it up with friends!
