Hii ! I think this is where I ask you questions..maybe ?
My name's Sammie and I live in Missouri . I was trying to figure out the best music schools and Hopkins popped up so Im checking it out . Im a Christian so when I saw that you were it seemed best to talk to you . I also would like to know more about Public Health, what that degree prepares you for ? I have a (burning) passion for helping people and serving God, Im just not sure where to direct it . I also, as I mentioned before, enjoy music, playing and listening . But I want to better myself at it while also moving forward with my life if possible, and how their soccer team is ? I know you're not a school counselor or anything like that and that this is most definitely not your job so feel free to disregard if you're short on time especially since it's the beginning of the school year and all .
Thanks so much,
-Sammie

Hi Sammie!

Well, Peabody is a great school for music. http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/ It's not the Homewood campus, where all of us are located, but it's still a school of Johns Hopkins. The Public Health Major is located in the School of Arts and Sciences, which is on the Homewood campus.

If you are interested in completing 2 degrees (one in public health and one in music), you could complete a dual degree. Here is a link about that: http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/172 Like you said, I'm not an advisor, but I do know that the dual degree programs are veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy challenging. Many students interested in music take up a music minor, which focuses on music theory and composition. That's also an option!

Public Health is a wonderful major because it is very broad but focused on saving people, and many at a time. The topics we cover include health policy and laws, environmental health, epidemiology (study of disease determinants and distribution in populations), biostatistics, health behavior, and more. As a senior, you take classes at the graduate school level at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, which is a wonderful opportunity for undergraduates. Students in this major are very passionate about helping people in many different ways, internationally and locally.

I can't really tell you much about soccer, but JHU_Noah can! Here is his question thread: http://forums.hopkins-interactive.com/topic/6658253/1/#new

I am indeed a part of Hopkins Christian fellowship, and I love it. There are plenty of Christian groups on campus, but this one is for me. We are focused on studying the Bible and helping students to grow. We have a cool website now...you should check it out http://jhu.edu/hopcf/ Students run it basically, lead Bible studies, play on the worship team, lead events, serve the student body with food and serve the community, and more.

I hope that helped; let me know if you have anymore questions!

Hi Dominique,
My name is Vanessa and Im a junior in high school, my question is why did you choose john hoopkins as the college your going to attend and was it a easy decision to go to a college that was out of state and away from your family and friends?

Hi Vanessa!

Well actually, JHU is in state for me, as I live in Baltimore. I am actually close to my family and friends because of that.

As for why I chose JHU... the rest of my thread has much more detailed answers but in short: I loved that I could study public health here; I could have several after-college options because of the JHU grad schools and programs that are affiliated with the Homewood campus (School of Nursing, education, business), tthe independent nature of the students here, and being in a great city that I knew but could have stood to know better. I love the people here and I definitely made the correct choice.
