They say you learn something new every day.  But at Hopkins, we probably learn hundreds -- about our majors, about ourselves, about our friends, about the world, and about every little thing in between.

So, what did Hopkins teach you today?

hahah oh Lauren, I suggested this topic to Daniel a couple a weeks ago.  Anyway, I really like this idea...

Today at Hopkins I learned the pros and cons of marriage regulations in my Population, Health, and Development courses.

I learned that if you don't use all of your meal swipes for the week it's a bad idea to try to use them all up by eating at the FFC four times in one day.

I learned that other people also have pointy heads.

I learned from my RA that guys have the ability to just not think, like there's a black hole in their heads that absorbs their thinking capacity when they're good and ready.

I also learned from my RA that if you go to the FFC putting a passionfruit teabag into the lemonade makes it taste so good.

Notice how nothing here is academic...LOL

Today (well, yesterday) at Hopkins I learned in my Environment and Your Health class that eating 1 tablespoon of peanut butter increases a person's chance of death from cancer in a year by a risk of 1 in 1,000,000 - the same risk associated with cancer from living with 20 miles of a nuclear power plant for 20 years.

I'm kinda upset about that whole peanut butter debacle...

But I did learn yesterday that the Hopkins Board of Trustees is full of ballers. Seriously check out some of their profiles: http://trustees.jhu.edu/members.php

Trust me, it's a VERY google-able group of people.

Today, Hopkins taught me how our buildings are all too cold!  (I am freezing in the mattin center student activities building right now!)

It also taught me how to write an annotated bibliography for my thesis.  Fun times.

This morning at Hopkins (well not really at Hopkins as I am in Waltham, MA doing work for Hopkins) I learned all about "dark energy" and how amazing some of the faculty at Hopkins are.

See I have this series of counselor breakfasts this week where I meet with guidance counselors and update them on "what's new" at Hopkins. Well I was honing up on my JHU knowledge reading about our Genius Grant winner Adam Riess and the amazing work he is doing in astrophysics.

According to my friend who's taking physiological psychology, an average adult's attention span is only an hour, so it's best to take fifteen minute breaks in between marathon studying sessions. Hey, any excuse to take a breather!

I learned that even though a normal adult's attention span is an hour, when studying for the Physiological Psychology exam - it shortens substantially!

I also learned that energy drinks can have absolutely no effect.

Oh, and academically, I learned that humans may have a second olfactory system that also us to smell pharamones and react to them (without even realizing it!).

And, I'm glad I'm not a big fan of peanut butter.  :D

I don't remember anything particulary academic i learned today, but i have learned that sleep is very important, and i need lots.
I have also learned that my body isn't effected by caffinated products; the other day i had 6 cups of black tea, 2 pepsi maxes, and a five hour energy shot, and fell easily to sleep at 11pm -- my body is weird!

Ooh, i have learned that when you enjoy a class or the topic discussed that studying is fun!

I learned that studying with other people can be fun and helpful!  Today, I reviewed European Union with Esther and another friend.  It was great to just talk out loud.  Often times we got off topic, but now I have a list of places I need to visit when I'm abroad!!! Still, reviewing with other people is often times, very clarifying.

More factually, I learned that the European Union is an unnecessarily complicated organization.  Especially with the way they try and pass bills.

P.S. I really like this topic!

Today, I learned about Marcus Garvey and his plan to create an Africa for black people....I understand where he was coming from, but there's no way sending ALL black people in the world to Africa would ever work.

During Environment & Your Health class this evening, I learned that “extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields” are possibly carcinogenic to humans, (don’t you just love the uncertainty), so think twice before you stand in front of a microwave or decide to climb your nearest electric pole. ;)

I learned that it is not always necessary to put in an excessive amount of quarters in the parking meters around campus, as the meter maids aren’t always around to give tickets.

I learned that Pura Vida Coffee sold at Levering just isn’t as potent as Starbucks, no matter what flavor you try.

This wasn't today, but both the other day and yesterday: I learned just how great a resource the APTT room is! For those of you who don't know about it already, the APTT room is a room in AMR I that's staffed by student peer counselors every night from Sunday night through Thursday night. You can stop by to talk about anything--and I mean anything! The APTT peer counselors are there to listen to what you have to say as well as talk with you. Except for a few critical situations, such as a student making a remark that hints that he/she is in danger of harming himself/herself or other people, APTT peer counselors keep everything that you say confidential. Oh yeah, and stopping by the APTT room to talk is free. Sounds cool, right?

Until this week, I only went to the APTT room when my friends who are APTT peer counselors were on duty, so that I could hang out with them and talk. However, something recently came up that has been bugging my mind a lot, and I ended up going to the APTT room both the other evening and last night to talk about everything that was on my mind. With exams and papers due this week, my friends here haven't been available much for me to talk to them about this matter (and I completely understand that), so I figured I should try going to the APTT room and talking to the peer counselors there as a way to de-stress.

Let me tell you: it helped a lot! And so if you're a current Hopkins student or a future Hopkins student, I encourage you to check it out when you have the chance! :)

Today I learned (from Rob's post above) that Pete's takes j-cash!  So exciting!  Pete's is a great breakfast place a few blocks from campus.  In fact, thinking about pete's made me really want french toast...too bad I'm working on a paper.

I learned that the Public Health major no longer has a language requirement, and that the worst time to go to FFC is at 10 30 because there is no food out because of the transition from breakfast to 11 oclock lunch.

Okay so I'm still slightly confused by it, so bear with me here.  BUT, in my physics class today, I learned that there's this material (made by our chemistry department) that reassembles glass shards.  My professor took a little beaker, put it in a little bag, smashed it up with a hammer, then poured the contents into a bigger beaker full of a yellowish liquid, then a few seconds later pulled out the full, non-smashed little beaker.  I'm still baffled.
