To get an idea of some of the great campus events that we have at Hopkins, check out the website of the HOP (the Hopkins Organization for Programming) - especially the "Upcoming Events" and "Past Events" pages. All of those events are free.

Disclosure statement: I am on the executive board of the HOP. :)

I love The Hop because they are 100% dedicated to the students of Hopkins which is a great feeling.  Their dedication is so thorough that they didn't even cancel their last event that occurred during the 2010 snOMG!  Consequently, my friend Karen and I got our own private viewing of Twilight.  Yes, that's right.

I loved Lupe!!!! I've been a fan of his for a few years, and was so incredibly happy to hear that he would be at Hopkins.  Its great that even a small school can still get some pretty big name people to come and perform.  The fact that it was in the Rec center made it even cooler, it gave the whole thing a local kind of vibe, it felt very close to home.  Anyways, the HOP did a great job with this one, and I'm looking forward to more great concerts in the future!

I still love the hypnotist show, but laser tag during orientation this year was awesome since I got to play like 15x. Watching playfair was pretty cool too. During the school year though I love all the games that go on at Homewood Field, and the HOP events are always awesome.

Hmm,. I dunno if I can really pin one down, but I definitely like the o show and the culture show each year. I love seeing the dance groups and how different they are, and i like the culture groups too! =] It makes me appreciate the diversity we have here at Hopkins.

I really liked The President's Day of Service. Not only did I get to volunteer for a new organization, but I got to meet new people while completing service. I got to go paint a community arts center; the people at the arts center were really awesome!

I liked the comedy show at orientation this year- the comedian was a former Hopkins student and he made fun of EVERYONE-but he was funny for other reasons too! It was hilarious, especially because he knew all of the Hopkins stereotypes. He started talking about Myth Busters, and when all of us started cheering for it, he goes, "of course! Only at Hopkins would kids actually cheer for Myth Busters!" :D

Why has no one mentioned the Sterling Brunches at FFC as their favorite event yet??  They always have like chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate cupcakes and so much other delicious food.

By the way, I found it really funny how for "favorite campus event" the first thing that comes to my mind is food and the first thing that comes to Kate's mind is doing community service.  Clearly I need to set some new priorities  :P

I haven't mentioned it because I haven't had the Sterling brunch yet! I love chocolate, so now I'm really excited for it haha! :) Wow that might have to tie with the President's Day of Service... ;)

I gotta say that I loved Convocation. Which was basically the first huge event for us freshmen (happened during O-week before classes started). The President and profs of JHU welcomed us in this grand ceremony and it was just absolutely amazing. Loved it. Felt really proud to be a Blue Jay at that moment.

Hi,

There wasn't any special event that I was aware of, although several of my friends made note of it on facebook!
On a related subject, we do have a Feminists Alliance!

ok so this may not be a well known event but each year (usually) the black greek letter organizations from Hopkins and nearby colleges (UMBC, Morgan, Towson...) come and put on a step show here. I wouldn't say this was my favoriteeeee event but it's definitely something worth going to and it's a culture shock for most students here :)

Spring Fair is the single greatest event ever. Fact. The food. The weather. The Beach. That wonderful area on the President's lawn. Spring Fair is heaven.

I really like all the service-oriented events like the President's day of service or other activities organized by student groups.

Some really cool statistics taken off of the JHU Gazette:
Quote
In fall 2011, 81 student organizations, representing 59 percent of the undergraduate student body at Homewood, worked on dozens of city service projects, including teen mentoring, breast cancer awareness initiatives, neighborhood cleanups, book drives, home renovations, math tutoring, animal welfare and many others.
Of those surveyed, students volunteered on average 1.94 days per week. The undergraduates’ service—more than 69,600 work hours—was valued at a minimum of $1,553,584, based on state of Maryland hourly volunteer rates.

I loved Spring Fair! It was a great way to unwind with friends and have an excuse to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING before the end of term. There are tons of great events- Chiddy Bang came last year! Passion Pit is coming this year! It's actually the best thing ever- the weather is beautiful and everyone is ready for summer!

I really like Homecoming, everyone's just so happy that it's finally warm out, and there are always barbeques and bands playing on the quads and blue balloons all over the place.  Also I like seeing the alumni come back to visit with their families - weird to think that that might be us in 10 or 20 years.  Yikes.

I thought that First Night was really, really cool. After the first day of classes, the upperclassmen welcomed us incoming Freshmen with a candle ceremony that night, we got our Class of 2015 t-shirts with our class flag, and there was food and music outside of Levering. It was a memorable way to end the first day of our first semester of classes at Hopkins.

My favorite campus events so far as a freshman have to be Convocation (I agree with JHU_Alyssa; I think it's a great formal tradition that welcomes the freshman class to Hopkins), STERLING BRUNCHES (classy food at the FFC for a meal swipe?! I literally have not missed one yet. There's always smoked salmon, chocolate fondue, crepes, a huge dessert table, and more!), and (this hasn't happened yet, but...) Spring Fair! Although Fall Fest was pretty fun with Far East Movement, I'm beyond excited for Passion Pit to come to campus!
All the best,

Another fun campus event today, sponsored by the HOP: Free pie for Pi day! They had lots of different types of pie (for free, yay!) in the Glass Pavilion!
