Spring Fair Food

Yesterday the campus was taken over by tons of vendors for SPRING FAIR!!!  Even though Spring Fair weekend is full of fun stuff like fireworks, carnival rides, and a concert, we all know that the most important part is the food!

What is everyone's favorite Spring Fair food??

Feel free to also mention your favorite Spring Fair activities/events/purchases that aren't food related. :D

CORN DOGS and fried Oreos.  I'm proud to say that is basically what I've survived on for the past 48 hours :) though my friends have been obsessed with the pad thai and chicken-on-a-stick this year for some reason.  And they get ice cream SO often, it's so tempting!  You can't go wrong with any of the food though...except I will give you one tip: make sure you shop around!  One place was trying to sell corn dogs for $5 today but I found one booth that was selling them for just $2.  It's all about finding the best prices!

^^The first thing I purchased was a two dollar corn dog, then I saw one for five bux...no way!

My friends have also been obsessed with pad thai and chicken on a stick. I think I will try some pad thai today then some beef on a stick.

I had thai iced tea for the first time...interesting to say the least. I think I would have liked it better hot though. I had some fried rice that was good too. And some choco icecream. And  funnel cake. And some chicken gyro.

Last year all I had was one beef patty so this year I am trying to make up for it :P

I am too scared to try fried oreos tho! Especially after I saw the deep fried candy bar...wow

My friend Drew was actually one of the two food chairs for this year so I definitely spent way too much time in the food court. My fav is still the classic chicken-on-a-stick, though!

My gripes about the Spring Fair food are that it's (1) expensive (for a college student budget, at least if you don't watch what you spend) and (2) unhealthy (except, perhaps, for the fresh fruit smoothies)--but it's still delicious! ;) I've always been a fan of the deep-fried Oreos and the less salty versions of chicken-on-a-stick. (FYI, there are at least three different Thai vendors that all sell chicken-on-a-stick each year.)

FRIED OREOS!!!!!!!!!!!1 And friend candy bars too. They're ridiculously unhealthy but they're sooooooooo good. Aside from all the food and giving 30 hours of interviews all weekend, my favorite part of spring fair was the concert! I had seen Forever the Sickest Kids live a few times before, and I used to listen to Dispatch which broke up and eventually formed State Radio, so I was extremely happy. Plus there was virtually no one there compared to the concerts that I'm used to going to, so I could actually sit on the grass on the practice field and watch the concert. I loved it because it was so low key and still a huge part of spring fair.

The Thai Chicken on a stick was pretty fabulous.

I missed out on the oreos this year!  So sad.

I actually made it a mission to have pad thai from each of the Thai food vendors...so I had four of them in three days.  They weren't the best pad thai I've ever had, as you might guess considering it's sold out of a booth at a fair, but pretty delicious nonetheless.

And there was delicious Indian food, I'll second that!

...and I got a funnel cake, an absolute necessity.

Hmm...I'm trying to pinpoint what food I missed from Spring Fair this semester (since I wasn't around and was instead lying in a park in Zurich). Honestly, Spring Fair could definitely use a few more vegetarian options. But I would have to say funnel cake is my favorite. I've tried (and succeeded) at staying away from the funnel cakes.

Yeah, there were actually quite a few vegetarian options mixed in with the common corn dog there this year.  There was one booth that strictly offered all organic and/or vegan meal choices too, which was great!  Two of my friends are vegetarian and they really liked the sandwiches/salads/wraps/etc. they got from that place.  It seemed pretty popular! :)

I didn't go to the FFC from Thursday night until Monday night, and I definitely enjoyed the food area of spring fair!
I agree with Kate - eating there every day can be expensive. However, a lot of times I would split something with a friend (a lot of the servings are pretty big) which meant it was cheaper/I got to try more!
Highlights include the pina coladas, the fried oreos, and a blooming onion (which I ate all but about 5 bites of - my friends wanted to try it!). I love anything fried, so that was a great weekend!
As for vegetarian food - there wasn't a problem for me! I still managed to have something different at every meal!

I'm not sure what it was called, but I had a waffle on a stick, covered in chocolate, sprinkles, and other deliciousness. 'Twas wonderful.
